Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh faced heavy trolling on social media for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the upcoming film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’
Amidst tensions across the border of India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam which resulted in the loss of 26 innocent lives, Indian cultural bodies banned the entry of Pakistani artistes into Indian movies.
The Punjabi film is being produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu along with Diljit Dosanjh under the banners White Hill Studios and Story Time Productions.
The makers of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ are apparently skipping theatrical release in India and going for an overseas screening on June 27 (Friday). The producers also have not released the trailer on YouTube India. The message that reads on the channel says, “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
Soon after actor Diljit shared the trailer on his Instagram page on Sunday evening, netizens started questioning the team over casting Pakistani artiste Hania Aamir in the film.
Instagram accounts of Hania Aamir including several Pakistan stars like Mahira Khan, Sanam Saeed and Ali Zafar were blocked in India following a legal request in the wake of terrorists attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Hania was also criticised by netizens after she called Operation Sindoor “sinister”.
The producers of ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ have defended the decision to feature Hania Aamir in the film, stating the movie was shot before the recent conflict with Pakistan and that the decision to not release it in India was made keeping Indian sentiments in mind. The film starring Diljit Dosanjh and Hania Aamir will be released overseas only due to the ongoing tensions.
