Ravi Basrur, a well-known music composer in South Indian films, is getting ready for the Telugu release of his directorial film Veerachandrasa on September 19. Basrur, famous for his music in director Prashanth Neel’s films like Ugramm, KGF, and Salaar, recently spoke to FilmShlim about his journey in music and his upcoming work.
Basrur started his career in Kannada films and became popular with the Prashanth Neel’s KGF series for its impactful and memorable background music. He then worked for Salaar.
When Salaar released, some fans felt the background music was not as powerful as in KGF. Basrur explained that it was the director’s choice to make the music slow and subtle, rather than instantly striking. Later, after the film became available online, the music was appreciated by viewers.
Basrur also shared that Salaar brought him attention from outside India. “After the release of Salaar, I received 3–4 calls from production houses in the US,” he said. He added that the music was conceived with international standards in mind.
Currently, Basrur has started composing music for the NTR-Prashanth Neel film, tentatively titled Dragon. So far, he has completed 3–4 versions of the music. Fans have high expectations for the soundtrack, as the film is a commercial action drama.
