After staying away from South Cinema for almost three years, Pooja Hegde endorsed a de-glam role in the latest Tamil film Retro. Starring Suriya in the lead role, the film was directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The actress locked all her hopes on Retro but the movie gave a ‘retrospection’ call on Pooja’s career.
It has been five years since Pooja Hegde had a big hit. Her last major success was Ala Vaikuntapuramulo, before COVID. After that, none of her films worked well at the box office. Most Eligible Bachelor, Radhe Shyam and Acharya were flops.
Pooja shifted her focus away from Telugu after encountering back-to-back flops. She did Beast in Tamil and also starred in Circus as well as Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan in Hindi. But, they also ended as duds. This year, she hoped to win back the hearts with Shahid Kapoor’s Deva and even it did not work. Hence, she expected that the de-glam character in Retro will revive her career.
The film opened to a flop talk and the audiences did not like her performance or the role. Many now feel she should avoid such roles going forward. Although there is enough meat in the plot, the execution of Retro is very boring. The film distances itself from the audience in the first ten minutes, making it hard for the audience to survive till the end. Suriya has his struggles to make a comeback, and now, Pooja also has to reflect on the choices she is making.
Right now, Pooja Hegde is doing a special role in Rajinikanth’s Coolie. She is also part of Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan. Along with that, she is acting in Kanchana 4 with Raghava Lawrence and a Hindi film titled Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai.
If any of these become hits, her career may continue. If not, people in the film industry will easily look for options.
