When it comes to electrifying mass numbers in South Indian cinema, Rajinikanth’s Hukum from Jailer instantly comes to mind. The moment it was released, the song exploded in popularity. It took social media by storm and became a rage in theaters, sending Rajini fans into a frenzy. With its raw energy and perfect elevation of the hero, Hukum was widely considered a benchmark for mass songs as a reference point for future filmmakers.
Even Superstar Rajinikanth himself was highly impressed by the track. At the Jailer audio launch, he publicly appreciated the music director Anirudh Ravichander, who also happens to be his nephew, with a kiss on the cheek which was a rare gesture from the superstar. It’s said that Rajini even told Anirudh that he wouldn’t be able to top Hukum ever again.
However, things took a turn recently. After listening to the Cooli song Powerhouse, composed again by Anirudh, Rajinikanth reportedly changed his opinion. According to Anirudh, who shared this in a recent interview, Rajini personally told him that Powerhouse has actually surpassed Hukum.
Talking about Coolie, Anirudh added fuel to the excitement. He casually stated that he had already seen the full film and that the mass moments in Coolie are on another level. He even called it director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s best mass film yet.
Despite Rajini’s strong screen presence, Anirudh emphasized that the actor has completely immersed himself in Lokesh’s world, which gives the film a fresh and thrilling edge.
Anirudh also shared insights into his working style. Unlike most composers who follow a structured day, Anirudh admits he wakes up around noon, spends some time with family, and only steps into his studio by evening to start working on music.
His team consists of eight members, and their collaboration is very instinctive. Even one person feels a composition doesn’t work, they scrap it and move on to something better.
With Coolie already generating massive anticipation, and Rajinikanth himself backing Powerhouse over Hukum, fans have every reason to expect another musical and cinematic feast. And going by Anirudh’s words, the mass moments won’t disappoint.
