Director Puri Jagannadh, who scored back-to-back flops with Liger and Double iSmart, wants to score a hit this time. To end his dry spell, he collaborated with Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi for an exciting project. Titled Beggar, the movie is already making waves purely with its name. If the reports are true, and Vijay Sethupathi is indeed playing the role of a beggar, it opens up massive storytelling potential. Adding even more weight to the cast are Tabu and Radhika Apte.
Puri Jagan is known for designing hero characters in a relatable manner and he is also known for tapping into the underbelly of society with characters that fight their way to the top. Interestingly, Puri Jagannath aims pan-India with the project and is set to finish it in two months.
True to his reputation, Puri wants the film wrapped up in just 60 days, with Vijay Sethupathi also favoring a fast-paced shoot. Vijay Sethupathi reportedly allocated bulk dates for the film and he hopes that the film will add more value to his filmography. A slum set is being built for the film, where the majority of the shoot takes place.
The buzz is real, but the real question is: can Puri channel his old energy and deliver a film that blends depth with mass moments? With Vijay Sethupathi at the center, Beggar might just be the redemption arc Puri’s been waiting for.
