Among the many challenges currently faced by the Telugu film industry, piracy remains one of the most serious concerns. Many new films are being leaked online through Telegram and other piracy websites as early as the second day after their theatrical release.

In a significant move against this issue, the Telangana police arrested a man named Kiran Kumar, who is reportedly the mastermind behind a piracy racket.

Kiran Kumar, who previously worked as an air conditioner technician, allegedly recorded more than 65 films using a camera and uploaded them on Telegram soon after release. He reportedly charged around 30,000 rupees per film and earned nearly 80,000 rupees per month from his piracy activities.

In addition to regular payments, he also received commissions in cryptocurrency. The Anti Piracy Cell in the Film Chamber, led by Manindra Babu, filed a complaint which led to Kiran’s arrest.

According to industry estimates, the Telugu film industry suffered a loss of over 3,500 crore rupees last year due to piracy.

While strict laws are in place to combat film piracy, illegal copies continue to reach audiences, impacting box office collections and the overall health of the industry.
