Ever since the phenomenal success of Prabhas and Deepika Padukone’s Kalki 2898 AD, fans have been eagerly waiting for the film’s second part. In the previous interviews, the film’s director, Nag Ashwin, and producer Ashwini Dutt had confirmed that the shooting of Kalki 2 will kick off from this year’s end.
In a recent podcast, Nag Ashwin had to face the most important question – When is Kalki 2? And Nag Ashwin’s reply wasn’t quite direct. “A lot of things are connected to it. The actors definitely have to come together. Some of the previsualized sequences and action sequences are much bigger. So it will take some time. I don’t have an exact answer to that question,” said the talented director.
Elaborating further, Nag Ashwin said, “Everyone (actors) is busy. So it’s not an answer that I have. We hope to start shooting by the end of this year. The shooting will take some time, but the post-production usually takes longer. Hopefully in another 2 or 3 years, that’s what I think,” Nag Ashwin said, giving a vague picture of the crazy sequel’s timeline.
Meanwhile, Prabhas is currently busy with Raja Saab and Prabhas Hanu simultaneously. Mostly, he will finish his shoot for Raja Saab by the end of this month, while Prabhas Hanu will take some more time. On the other hand, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is planning to start the shoot of Spirit by the end of September or October. As per industry circles, the buzz is that Vanga waited this long just to maintain Prabhas’s specific look for Spirit. In this packed schedule, fans are now wondering how Prabhas can manage the shoot of Kalki 2, which requires a different look. We’ll have to wait and see how this turns out possible.
Released in June 2024, Kalki 2898 AD went on to gross over more than Rs 1000 crores globally. The mythological sci-fi magnum opus also features the two legends of Indian cinema – Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan – in pivotal roles.
