Post the success of Mrunal Thakur, everyone believed that she would become the next big thing in the Indian film industry. Although she commands a fan base down South, her career graph in the Hindi industry has not been as expected. Now, she scored another flop in Hindi cinema, making her chances of survival bleak.
Mrunal made a promising entry into mainstream Hindi cinema with Super 30 alongside Hrithik Roshan in 2019. But post that breakthrough, she’s been unable to deliver a single solid hit in Bollywood. Films like Batla House, Toofaan, Selfiee, Gumraah, Aankh Micholi, and Pippa have all failed to make a mark either critically or commercially. The latest to add to the list is Son of Sardaar 2.
Released last Friday, the film SOS 2 struggled from the outset. With minimal pre-release buzz and little audience interest even with 50% ticket discounts, its opening day was dismal. Mrunal’s role also failed to add any substance to the film, leaving her fans in significant disappointment.
Even in Telugu, one poor choice, Family Star, put her back in a dilemma. Currently, all eyes are on her upcoming film Dacoit, where she stars opposite Adivi Sesh. Sesh is expected to bring Mrunal back into the spotlight with something impactful.
There’s also buzz in industry circles that she might share screen space with Allu Arjun in an upcoming project directed by Atlee. At least this film should bring her back to demand across languages.
