Mohanlal Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award: “Not a Dream Come True Moment.” – FilmShlim

Dadasaheb Phalke Award holds the rank of the country’s highest award for cinema. The award by the Government of India honors those individuals who have made a great contribution to Indian films. The award was inspired by Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema. The award ceremony comes up every year during the National Film Awards. The award committee consists of respected members from the movie fraternity. They decide the award winners.

Veteran actor Mohanlal had this honor bestowed upon him on tuesday at the 71st National Film Awards. Mohanlal, the acclaimed Malayalam actor, became the youngest actor this award had been given to as well as the second citizen from the state of Kerala.

The actor clarified during his address that he felt very grateful and humbled. He also explained further that the award does not just belong to him, but to the entirety of the Malayalam film industry. “I view this award as a tribute to our industry, creativity, and hard work,” he clarified. “When I heard the news, I felt honored as well as privileged to represent the voice of our cinema.”

Mohanlal defined the moment as one that goes beyond his dreams. “It is not a dream come true moment; it goes well beyond the greats,” he explained. He gave the award as a tribute not only for himself but for everyone associated with Malayalam films as well as the audiences in Kerala for decades providing support for the movies. Quoting poet Kumaran Asan, he further said, “This flower did not just fall into the dust, it lived a life of beauty,” suggesting the long-lasting impact of the art as well as the people producing it.

He thanked the Government of India, the President, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and the jury for selecting him. Mohanlal also promised continuing his journey through films with sincerity and dedication.
