Deepika Padukone was initially considered to play the heroine in Spirit, starring Prabhas and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. However, she was reportedly dropped from the project. As per the speculations, she had put some unreasonable demands in front of the makers which neither parties have confirmed. In this context, Mani Ratnam shared his opinion, in favour of Deepika Padukone.
During the promotions of Thug Life, Mani Ratnam was asked to share his thoughts on the ongoing debate about reduced work shift for heroines especially after becoming Mothers.
“I think it is a rightful demand. I’m glad she’s in a position to ask for it. I think as a filmmaker, you will take that into consideration when you cast. It is not an unreasonable thing to ask, but an absolute necessity. I think that should be the priority. You have to acknowledge that, understand it and work around it,” shared Mani Ratnam.
Deepika reportedly wanted to work only 6 hours a day, to make herself available for her daughter who is a months baby.
Earlier, actor Ajay Devgn also shared his opinion in favour of Deepika. “Most of the honest filmmakers will not have problems with it. And apart from this, being a mother and working for eight hours, most people have started working eight-nine hours shifts,” said Ajay Devgn.
Additionally, there are also rumors that Deepika demanded huge remuneration and additional profits from the revenue.
