Malayalam Actor Unni Mukundan has found himself in a soup as his former manager has alleged that the actor had abused him physically and verbally. A complaint has been filed against the actor in Kochi after the manager received treatment at a hospital for wounds.

The Malayalam industry is on the radar for dishing out some greatest stories on the big screen. However, the industry has been in the centre of controversies that some actors invovled in for — be it sexual harassment, drug abuse on film sets.

Recently, actor Shine Tom Chacko, who appeared in Telugu films like Dasara, Rangabali, Devara, made a cinematic stunt at a hotel room as he jumped off the premises during an inspection by anti-narcotic special action force.

In 2017, a high-profile assault case took centrestage. The Justice Hema Committee Report described Mollywood as a “mafia of powerful men”. At least 17 cases were booked against prominent actors, directors and producers in the Malayalam industry including Ranjith Balakrishnan, VK Prakash, Siddique, Mukesh and Jayasurya.

Earlier this year, producer Sandra Thomas attempted to uncover the truth of how drug abuse was rampant on film sets. She alleged that film producers have been allocating budgets specifically for drugs.

While Mollywood is continuously hogging national spotlight, such controversies re-occurring one after the other have been resulting in public outrage and bad reputation. Netizens feel that the industry needs urgent system cleanup.
