Actor Madhavan is someone who doesn’t budge to commercial pressures when it comes to entertaining his fans on the big screen.
The actor has been vocal about his preference for age-appropriate roles since a longtime. Remember when he was one of the principal characters in ‘3 Idiots’, Madhavan had said he felt “cringe” portraying a college student at the age of 40.
On the sidelines of promotion of his upcoming Netflix film ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’, the actor said the industry is finally waking up to the demand for more realistic portrayals of age-appropriate romance on the screen.
He noticed that there has been a visible shift in how stories are being told on the screen, particularly when it comes to old-male actors romancing young heroines. The days have gone when you think you’re much older and still pretend to be the age of the heroine and romance her. The ‘Sala Khadoos’ star said that has stopped completely and is not accepted, if one is doing it one has to be smart to show age-appropriate romance.
Madhavan says he doesn’t ever go by trends. The choice of roles including the age-appropriate ones are rather driven by emotional resonance. The Sakhi actor says he goes and finds concepts instinctively. This approach of the actor shows how committed towards authentic storytelling.
Meanwhile, some big stars are still compelled to do roles due to commercial pressures or to cater larger audiences.
