The Tamil sports drama Lubber Pandhu released last year and got good responses from both audience and critics. The film, directed by debutant Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, also performed well on OTT platforms in multiple languages.
Rajasekhar, who has been taking up steady character roles recently, is leading this project. He was seen in Extra Ordinary Man and will appear as Sharwanand’s father in Biker, which releases in December. Rajasekhar has acquired the telugu remake rights, and the shoot began a few days ago in Hyderabad.
Ani IV Sasi, known for Ninnila Ninnila and Uppu Kappurambhu, is directing the Telugu version. Viswadev Rachakonda takes up the role played by Harish Kalyan in the original. Rajasekhar reprises Dinesh’s part, while Ramya Krishnan plays the role done by Swasika. Rajasekhar’s daughter Sivani is taking the role originally played by Sanjana Krishnamoorthy.
The film also brings Rajasekhar and Ramya Krishnan together after nearly two decades. They last worked together in several hit films during the 1990s, including Allari Priyudu and Balarama Krishnudu.
Remakes face challenges in the current market, especially when the original is already available in Telugu dub. Digital rights for remakes have also seen lower demand. How the Telugu version performs in theatres and on OTT remains to be seen.
