At a time when prominent filmmakers like Shankar and Mani Ratnam failed to deliver proper hits in Kollywood, Lokesh Kanagaraj has turned out to be a crowd puller.

He has influenced masses with his action storytelling. His forte including strong character arcs, interlinked universes that fans get to see (like Kaithi, Vikram, Leo) along with realistic action are some of the standpoints that earned him a great success at the box office. He hasn’t seen flops till date.

Shankar on the other hand is known for launching careers of actors. Visual grandeur and Vfx have been always his ingredients to dish out message-driven stories. Fans had seen some of the costliest movies during the era of Shankar in early 2000s. But faltered with back-to-back films like Indian 2 and Game Changer.

Mani Ratnam has left a legacy behind as he contributed immensely to Tamil cinema. His filmmaking style and themes earned Tamil cinema a reputation of sorts during ’80s and ’90s. But his themes of late haven’t clicked well. ‘Thug Life’ , which was released on Friday, also garnered mixed response.

But fans feel that Kanagaraj can replace the vacuum in Tamil cinema given his track record as a filmmaker who delivered consistent hits.

A few netizens are optimistic about his forthcoming film ‘Coolie’ starring Superstar Rajinikanth, even though director Nelson is coming up with Jailer 2. So Lokesh has to prove his mettle at the Tamil box office during this dry and dull season.
