On World Drug Day, held annually on June 26, the Telangana Government hosted a high-impact awareness campaign in Hyderabad. The event, organized under the Rising Telangana initiative, saw participation from government leaders such as CM Revanth Reddy, police officials, and some celebrities, including Ram Charan.
Reflecting on his childhood, Ram Charan shared a personal memory: “I remember buying popsicles outside my school gate. Those were spaces of joy and innocence. Today, those same places are becoming hotspots where children, knowingly or unknowingly, are being exposed to drugs.”
He referenced a 2015 protest that first drew attention to the issue. “That was a wake-up call,” he said. “Now, as a parent homeschooling my child, I never imagined I’d one day worry about this so deeply. The need for a day like this is tragic, but necessary.”
Charan emphasized what he called the real high. “Success in a film, scoring well in exams, an evening with family, or playing with friends, that’s the true high we should be chasing,” he said.
The event also highlighted the proactive efforts of Telangana’s police and administration, who have increased vigilance in schools and neighborhoods to curb the spread of drugs.
“Let’s protect our families, our friends, our schools,” Charan urged. “This isn’t just the government’s responsibility—it’s ours too.”
He concluded with a call to action: “Let’s all become soldiers in this fight.”
