Thalapathy Vijay is busy with both films and politics. He launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, last year and announced that Jana Nayagan will be his last movie before entering full-time politics. He is also preparing to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections while completing the film’s shoot.

On 27 September, a major tragedy took place at Vijay’s political rally in Karur district. The event was held at Velusamypuram on the Karur–Erode highway. Vijay’s convoy was delayed by almost seven hours, and when he finally arrived, the crowd rushed forward to see him. This led to a stampede in which 41 people died and over 100 were injured. The incident created huge criticism against Vijay and his party.

Because of this incident, the makers of Jana Nayagan have decided to postpone the release of the film’s first song, which was supposed to come out in the first week of October. A new date is yet to be announced. The movie is still planned for a Pongal 2026 release.

In the latest update, the Madras High Court strongly criticized TVK leaders over the Karur stampede and accused Vijay of leaving the scene. The court has also ordered a Special Investigation Team to look into the incident.

Jana Nayagan is directed by H. Vinoth, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. It is produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions.
