Sunny Deol returned to the big screen with Gadar 2, which grossed nearly ₹700 crore worldwide. His next project, Jaat, was a Hindi debut for director Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory.
Jaat released earlier this year. It opened to good word of mouth and performed decently at the box office. While it didn’t generate major profits, it left a positive impact on audiences, encouraging the makers to announce a sequel, Jaat 2.
During promotions for their latest release Dude, Mythri Movie Makers commented on the sequel. “Jaat did well at the box office and created anticipation for Jaat 2. There’s interest from both trade and OTT platforms. We’ll start working on it soon,” they said.
However, Gopichand Malineni is currently busy directing a historical drama for Nandamuri Balakrishna. As a result, the makers are exploring other directors. Sriram Aditya, known for Telugu films like Bhale Manchi Roju, Devadas, and Manamey, is reportedly being considered for his Hindi debut with Jaat 2. An official announcement could come soon.
Jaat tells the story of a remote coastal village terrorized by criminal Varadaraja Ranatunga. When a stranger arrives, he confronts the criminals and exposes the villagers’ suffering. The film was produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, with music by Thaman.
