With countless timeless songs to his credit, Ilayaraja’s compositions continue to evoke deep emotions in listeners. His mastery of music has earned him millions of fans and a place of reverence in Indian cinema. With over 1000 films to his credit and countless songs, he is the irreplaceable in the film industry. But, when he states that by himself, there is a criticism up against him.

Recently, Ilaiyaraaja stated that there is no one like him before his entry in cinema and even after his entry. He went on to state that even after his passing away, no one would recreate what he did. The comments did not go well with a section of audiences, accusing him of arrogant.

In the said interview, where the comments made by him went viral, Ilayaraja was reflecting on his personal journey. He explained how he came from a small village, worked with many senior musicians, and learned from each one to become the composer he is today. His statement was more about his unique path and self-made success than about dismissing others. He emphasized that his rise came without external help and that his experiences and background shaped a musical identity that is distinct and unmatched.

However, a lot of people misinterpreted him by calling him arrogant. But, is it not entirely true of what he stated? Ilaiyaraaja is proud of his work and the rise despite all the odds and we can truly state that there is no one in the past who worked for thousand movies and in the current generation, it is next to impossible.

Although he has now become selective about his film projects, Ilayaraja recently composed music for the film Shashtipurthi.
