The upcoming Dasara season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive periods, with multiple big-ticket releases eyeing dominance at the box office. While most filmmakers are steering clear of clashing with the much-hyped Kantara: Chapter 1, one actor who isn’t backing down is Dhanush.

Despite the prequel to Kantara carrying enormous buzz, especially in Karnataka and Telugu states, Dhanush has locked October 1 for the release of his new directorial venture Idli Kadai. Industry watchers see this as a daring move, given the film will directly face the Kantara storm from the very next day.

If that wasn’t enough, Pawan Kalyan’s OG is hitting screens just a week earlier. With record ticket prices and huge demand, OG is expected to dominate theatres for at least two weeks, limiting screen availability for smaller films. Against this backdrop, Idli Kadai will have to fight for visibility in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while also trying to hold its ground in Karnataka, where Kantara is expected to rewrite box office records.

In Tamil Nadu, however, the film has a smooth path with distribution handled by Red Giant Films under Udhayanidhi Stalin’s leadership, ensuring wide release across the state. But the bigger challenge lies outside Tamil Nadu, where competition is fierce and audience attention is divided.

Adding to the crowded lineup, a Bollywood release Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is also arriving on October 2. With so many heavyweights in play, the Dasara box office battle will be an acid test for Dhanush’s confidence and Idli Kadai’s emotional drama appeal.
