Kingdom, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, released in theatres on Thursday. Known for Jersey and Malli Raava, Gowtam was absent from the film’s promotions due to last-minute work on the final cut. Now, after the release, he has started interacting with the media, addressing both feedback and the film’s future.
From the beginning, Kingdom was planned as a two-part story. The first part ends by introducing a new character, Sethu, who is revealed as the elder brother of the main antagonist. Gowtam confirmed that Part 2 will centre around the conflict between Suri, played by Vijay Deverakonda and Sethu. However, instead of jumping straight into the sequel, he now intends to make a standalone OTT film focusing on Sethu’s character.
According to Gowtam, several subplots were trimmed or altered in Part 1, and this OTT prequel will help fill those gaps. It’s also intended to give audiences a proper introduction to Sethu before he takes the spotlight in Part 2. Producer Naga Vamsi earlier confirmed that a well-known star will be playing Sethu, though the casting hasn’t been officially announced.
In a separate post-release interaction, Vijay Deverakonda, who plays the lead role in Kingdom, revealed that there are also early discussions for a possible Part 3. If it materializes, the third film will be a prequel set in the 1920s, exploring the origins of the Kingdom and how it all began. While nothing is locked in yet, the team seems interested in expanding the world further, depending on how the upcoming content is received.
While Kingdom has drawn mixed reactions so far, the idea of an OTT bridge film and gives the team space to build the universe organically. For now, Gowtam has completed Magic, a musical drama that will be his next immediate release. He is also planning to finish a love story before Vijay becomes available again for the Kingdom franchise, once the actor wraps up his current commitments.
