Saying that Pawan Kalyan’s Gabbar Singh gave her first major breakthrough as a lead actress, Shruti Haasan said that is the reason why she considers Telugu as her first home of success. After Gabbar Singh’s success, Shruti went on to attain stardom and acted in many successful films alongside various star heroes from the Telugu and Tamil film industries.

In a recent podcast, Shruti said, “I was supposed to be in Pawan Kalyan sir’s movie Gabbar Singh, which was a remake of Dabang. Then, there was some issue and I was not going to be in it.

However, the director Harish Shankar really fought for me, saying that he saw me in the role and he needed me. Then, I went and my life just changed after that. That’s how I have the career I have today because Telugu gave me my first home of success.”

She went on to add that once she visited Hyderabad to receive the Filmfare Award on behalf of her father, Kamal Haasan and said on stage that she would come back to get her own award someday. Gabbar Singh made that statement true for her.

Speaking about Pawan Kalyan and him entering politics, Shruti said that he is so rooted, who wants to be close to villages, people and farming. She said that such all-rounders are meant to be in politics.

“He was so rooted. He often talks about farming and returning to the villages. If you think about it in that context now, that kind of person should be in politics. An all-rounder who has seen both sides,” said Shruti.

Speaking about her experience of working with Pawan Kalyan, Shruti said, “I was intimidated. He was a huge star. But he was always very sweet. Him, Vijay sir, in Tamil, they are all very respectful and quiet gentlemen.”
