Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has landed in legal trouble once again. Former IPS officer Anjana Sinha has filed a case against him, alleging that her professional identity was misused in his web series Dahanam.

According to her complaint, the series portrayed her name and career profile without her consent, using them for commercial gain. Anjana Sinha, a 1990 batch officer who served as SP and DIG in Rayalaseema and later as ADGP in Telugu states, is currently the Director of the National Industrial Security Academy. She clarified that she never met or interacted with the makers of the series, nor did she give any permission to use her details.

The series, released in 2022 on MX Player with seven episodes, revolved around a revenge drama set against the backdrop of a communist worker’s murder. Varma was the producer. Anjana stated that Dahanam contained violent and sexual content, and linking her professional identity to such material has severely damaged her reputation, dignity, and professional standing. She also mentioned that it caused her mental distress.

Based on her complaint, Raidurgam police registered a case on September 10 against the producer and director under IPC sections 509, 468, 469, 500, and 120(B).

With several cases already pending against him in Andhra Pradesh, this new complaint adds to RGV’s mounting legal challenges. All eyes are now on how the police will proceed further in this matter.
