No matter how much the gap between film industries has narrowed, getting a chance in a Hollywood film is still a big deal for any Indian actor. Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil recently revealed that such a rare opportunity came to him but slipped away.
Starting his journey with small films in Malayalam, Fahadh has now grown into one of the most versatile actors in the country. With films like Vikram and Pushpa 2, he has earned pan India popularity and is now among the most wanted actors in the country. Interestingly, Fahadh shared in a recent interview that he once had an opportunity to act in Hollywood but missed it because of his English.
According to Fahadh, Academy Award winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu, known for films like The Revenant and Birdman, had personally called him to offer a role in one of his projects. Fahadh said that while the director was keen at first, he was not convinced after speaking to him, as Fahadh’s English accent did not meet expectations.
The actor added that the team wanted him to stay in the United States for three months to work on his English, but eventually they lost interest. Fahadh admitted that if everything had gone as planned, he might have worked on his language skills and acted in the film. However, he does not regret losing the role, as he felt he may not have been the right fit commercially.
Fahadh concluded by saying that he is happy continuing his work in Malayalam cinema, which has given him the recognition he cherishes.
