When it comes to cinema, the never-ending debate is always about box office numbers. Despite the flood of portals reporting domestic collections, the authenticity of these figures is anyone’s guess. Producers often claim that, apart from themselves, no one truly knows the exact numbers—be it in India or specifically in the Telugu states.
However, the scenario is strikingly different overseas. Countries like the United States, the largest overseas market for Telugu films, have established tracking systems for box office data. With platform like Comscore, box office numbers are updated hourly along with the number of locations as well, ensuring consistency for both producers and media outlets. This level of transparency is something the Indian industry has long aspired to achieve.
Speaking at the Thammudu trailer launch event, TFDC chairman Dil Raju highlighted this gap. Drawing inspiration from the US model, he revealed that he has proposed the immediate implementation of Tracking system in Telangana during a recent Ministerial Sub-Committee meeting with Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Batti Vikramarka. “We will soon see a proper box office tracking system in place,” he assured, signaling a new era of accountability.
Dil Raju didn’t stop there. He also addressed the growing menace of inorganic YouTube views, where teaser and trailer numbers are artificially inflated through paid promotions. He promised that steps would be taken to ensure only organic views are counted, starting with the Thammudu trailer, which dropped today.
Producer Dil Raju, who faced heavy trolling over the controversial box office figures of Ram Charan’s Game Changer, recently admitted that certain numbers were released under pressure. Now, Dil Raju seems determined to restore credibility and transparency in both box office reporting and digital viewership.
Thammudu is all set for a grand release on July 4th, with Nithin and Sapthami Gowda in the lead roles. The film also marks the on-screen comeback of actress Laya. Directed by Venu Sriram, known for Vakeel Saab starring Pawan Kalyan.
