The re-release trend is turning out to be a successful one in Telugu cinema. We have many examples of how a re-release generated decent revenue for the movies. In some cases, the film did well in the re-release, shocking the trade and the film industry. In such a scenario, it is time that the makers also must prepare themselves to invest a little more in remastering the movies.

Now, Athadu is being remastered carefully. After the film performed well in theatres, it later achieved cult status during the TV premieres. Athadu is unbeatable on Television as it has premiered a record number of times. Now, the film is being upscaled to an IMAX version.

Athadu deserves a classic experience, and hence, the team is investing in this. Definitely, it is not a cost-friendly approach, as it will cost a bomb. But, it will be worth it as people have already started discussing its re-release on social media.

On the other hand, there is Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, which is being upscaled to 8K and converted into 3D. Again, this is a tedious approach, but the team thinks it is worth it to provide the best experience for the audiences of this socio-fantasy film.

While re-releases are overtaking new releases in terms of footfalls, revenue, and reception, is it a good sign to invest additional amounts in upgradation? Remains a question. But, there is no one answer for it, and the fact is that not all movies deserve complicated approaches of remastering, and identifying them will make the job half done.
