Indian cinema is currently looking forward to a big box office clash, which is to happen in the span of one month. We have Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie as well as War 2 on the block. Hrithik Roshan and NTR are seen in War 2. Both are pan-Indian films aiming at a grand release across the nation. All eyes are on the promotions that the makers will now be adopting.
At the moment, with a month left for the release of both films, the promotional strategies are dull. Team War 2 took a strategic decision not to bring both Hrithik and NTR together for promotions. Such a strategy will not work in South as the audiences expect both heroes to share the stage.
Meanwhile, the chances are less for Rajinikanth doing an all-India tour to promote the film. We are unsure if he participates in promotions in Telugu states at least. So, both teams must up their games in approaching the audience with unique promotional strategies.
Both Coolie and War 2 are intense action films. While War 2 can be thrilling at times, Coolie will be infused with drama. Director Ayan Mukerji earlier proved his mettle with many films, and his addition to the War 2 world will be interesting. The audience is hoping that the face-off between Hrithik and NTR will change the entire dynamics. On the other side, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s screenplay style is often discussed. If he can crack it perfectly like how he did with Vikram and Khaidi, we can encounter another massive success.
In terms of the promotions that already began, the makers of Coolie released two songs with which they gained some attention. The promos and posters are impressive too. On the flip side, team War 2 is failing to hold the attention as their teaser opened to mixed reactions.
As per the reports in the trade, coincidentally, both the films have the same breakeven target. The two films must gross above 600 Cr rupees worldwide to recover the investment. It is quite a challenge for the two films, but definitely not something that can not be achieved.
So far, the theatrical pre-release business of Coolie is estimated around 160 Cr rupees, which does not include the Tamilnadu and North rights. The overall theatrical value is around 300 Cr rupees and all rights included will come over 500 Cr rupees. On the other hand, War 2 was sold for hot prices everywhere. Considering the earlier part’s overall gross of 450 Cr rupees, the target the team must aim is to register more than 600 Cr rupees.
Both War 2 and Coolie are releasing on August 14th.
