When it comes to growing at the pan-India level, the Telugu movies have always surpassed the expectations of the audiences at the box office. However, the Tamil films are yet to crack the code in gaining pan-Indian attention. There were a lot of hopes on Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan, but the film failed at the box office. Now, the attention is shifted to Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth.
Coolie comes up with a huge star cast who has visibility at the pan-Indian level. But, the film banks on the craze of Superstar Rajinikanth himself. Lokesh Kanagaraj is a successful director who also enjoys attention. So far, Lokesh’s films have managed to get a positive reception in North, but he has not scored a blockbuster.
The film’s title is not new to the Hindi audiences as it has earlier been used by Big B Amitabh Bachchan. Moreover, last time, Amitabh acted in Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyaan. Now, if Amitabh can step forward to promote Coolie out of the friendship he share with Rajini, that can give a big boost to the film’s performance in North India.
Moreover, Aamir Khan played a cameo in Coolie which itself is another element for the film to drive the North audiences towards the film. Additionally, Shruthi Haasan and Nagarjuna Akkineni have done Hindi films in the recent past, which have enjoyed a good craze.
On the whole, Indian 2 also had many plus points but it failed with a poor execution of the script. But now, Coolie can learn from Indian 2 mistakes in terms of marketing and presenting the film. However, the word of mouth will also matter big.
The biggest concern for Coolie to do well in Hindi would be its direct competition with War 2. If the content of Coolie deserves a watch, irrespective of the result of War 2, Coolie can still shine at the box office.
If Coolie can crack the Pan-India code for Kollywood, more films from Tamil would have a chance to impress the audiences.
