It is becoming common for film directors to take up acting roles. Tamil cinema has seen several filmmakers turn actors in recent years. Now, Lokesh Kanagaraj has joined that list.
Lokesh Kanagaraj is known for directing action thrillers and creating the Lokesh Cinematic Universe. His last film was Coolie with Rajinikanth, which did not perform as expected. His next project as a director is Kaithi 2, the sequel to his 2019 hit Kaithi. Before starting that, he is making his acting debut.
Lokesh will play the lead role in a film directed by Arun Matheswaran. Arun is known for films such as Rocky, Saani Kaayidham, and Captain Miller. The new film is said to be an action thriller. Shooting began on October 23 with a pooja ceremony. The first schedule is in progress in Chennai and is expected to be completed by January next year.
The latest update is about the female lead. Reports say Bollywood actress Wamiqa Gabbi will star opposite Lokesh Kanagaraj in this film. Wamiqa is well known for her work in Hindi and Punjabi films.
Wamiqa Gabbi made her Telugu debut with Bhale Manchi Roju in 2015. She will next be seen in Adivi Sesh’s G2, the sequel to Goodachari. She also has a few upcoming projects in Hindi cinema.
This film will mark Wamiqa’s second Tamil film and Lokesh’s first appearance as a lead actor. The combination has already drawn interest among Tamil movie fans. More details about the cast, title and release are expected to be announced soon.
