Bollywood film Bhool Chuk Maaf was supposed to hit the screens but the makers announced that the film will release directly on OTT. Starring Rajkumar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi in the leads, the movie had attracted controversy for the change of decision in the film’s release. PVR Inox chain initiated a legal battle with the film’s production houses, claiming that they had incurred a loss of 60 Cr rupees, which they spent on the film’s promotions.
The multiplex chain alleges that they spent a lot on branding the film and promoting it across the chain of theatres in the country. Now that the film will skip its release in theatres, it is a loss for them. However, on the flip side, the producers had invested hugely in the film and they have the right to make the right decision about the film’s release.
The current scenario is such that the audiences are not interested in catching up with the new releases. They are more concerned about the situation prevailing at the border. Hence, the makers also decided to release the film directly on OTT.
Meanwhile, the production house sources claim that the maximum a producer usually invest in a film for marketing is more or less 25 Cr rupees but PVR Inox chain claims a number which is illogical. Hence, they rule out that the decision is completely in the hands of producers and the exhibitors can not have a say in it.
Meanwhile, the court listened to both the parties and a final decision will be made on Monday.
