Celebrated music composer Anirudh Ravichander has been mildly disappointing with his work over the last few months. After Devara, Anirudh was unable to make a mark in his film. After Devara, Anirudh came up with many films like Vettaiyan, Vidaamuyarchi, Kingdom, Coolie and Madharasi, but none of them were up to his true potential. Except for the Monica song and a few background scores in Coolie, his work in other films was subpar.
Now, after a long time, Anirudh impressed the audience once again with his work for the film “Arasan”. The 5-minute promo of this Silambarasan-starrer period action drama was released yesterday and opened to a positive response from the audience. Especially, Anirudh received wide appreciation from the audience for his BGM in the promo. So, it remains to be seen if Anirudh regains his glory with Arasan.
Arasan is directed by Vetri Maaran, who is one such filmmaker who focuses more on content than flashy music and background score. We don’t often see slow-motion shots with thumping BGM to elevate the protagonist in Vetri’s films.
Anirudh is known for such work. So, working with Vetri is a challenge for Anirudh, and he has done fairly well with the promo. However, it will be interesting to see how he will stand out with his music in the full movie because Vetri generally doesn’t give preference to elevating background scores and focuses more on the story.
In that way, Anirudh has a huge task ahead to get a space from Vetri Maran for his music in this movie. We have to wait and see how this collaboration works out when Arasan hits the theatres.
Produced by V Creations, Arasan will have a simultaneous release in Telugu as Samrajyam (A part of Vada Chennai Universe ). It is slated to hit the screens worldwide in 2026.
