Kantara Chapter 1, headlined by Kannada star Rishab Shetty, took full advantage of the extended first weekend at the box office during the Dussehra season and performed on par with trade expectations in all territories.

After taking a phenomenal opening on Thursday with 88 Crores gross, the film maintained its momentum throughout the weekend by collecting 65 Crores on Friday and then adding another 82 Crores on Saturday. The Rishab Shetty starrer is already one of the highest grossers this year.

With a stellar performance on the first three days, the film grossed around 235 Crores worldwide from all languages and proved that the hype for the prequel is beyond Kannada language.

On Sunday, the period action drama had another terrific day at the box office and amassed more than 80 Crores gross to breach into the 300 Crore club. While domestic revenues are thoroughly impressive, the overseas numbers are a bit underwhelming with Telugu version turning out to be a saviour in biggest territories like North America.

Now that, the long weekend and the crucial festive season has ended, the real test begins for Kantara Chapter 1 from this Monday. Despite scoring a 300 Crore weekend, the film will need to continue its steady run on weekdays without showing a big drop in numbers as there is still a long way for break even mark. The film was sold for massive price as the first part emerged as a runaway hit at the box office and grossed over 400 Crores without any expectations.

Going by the current run, the prequel is on track to surpass the lifetime collections of the first part. But, it will need more to emerge as a clean box office hit. The next few days will decide the fate of the buyers. Moreover, the team will need to reduce the ticket prices to ensure decent footfalls from today considering how the collections of Pawan Kalyan’s OG nosedived after the production house failed to opt for lower prices.
