Telugu actor Srikanth, also known as Sriram in Tamil cinema, is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested by Tamil Nadu police in a drug-related case. Though many celebrity drug cases tend to cool down after a brief media storm, this one appears to be getting more complicated.
According to reports, Sriram admitted in court that he had used narcotics, and the court denied him bail, placing him in judicial custody for 14 days.
The case came to light during an investigation into a nightclub dispute involving a former AIADMK leader named Prasad. While being questioned, Prasad reportedly revealed Srikanth’s name, leading police to dig deeper. The investigation revealed that Sriram allegedly purchased drugs from Prasad nearly 40 times.
Police registered a case under three different sections and interrogated Sriram at the Sungambakkam police station for two hours. Medical tests conducted on him reportedly returned positive results twice, confirming drug use. He was then presented before a magistrate, who sent him to judicial custody.
In court, Srikanth reportedly accepted his drug use and requested bail, stating that he has a child to care for. However, the court rejected his plea. According to Tamil media, Sriram claimed that Prasad owed him Rs 10 lakh and would offer him cocaine whenever he asked for the money. Over time, Srikanth admitted he developed a dependency on the substance.
This case has become a major talking point in Tamil film circles, and with Sriram still in custody, more developments are expected in the coming days.
