Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is best known for his films like Gulaal, Black Friday, Gangs of Wasseypur, Dev D and Manmarziyaan, has officially confirmed that he has left Bollywood and Mumbai. The actor reportedly relocated to Bengaluru and is currently focusing on South films.

In an interview with the leading news daily, Kashyap said there is no more creative freedom in the Hindi film industry, and the box office numbers solely drive it. In another interview last year, Kashyap said that Bollywood is toxic and that he wants to move out of it soon.

He opined that the creative atmosphere is gone in the Hindi film industry and everyone is chasing fantasy business targets like collecting Rs. 500 crores or Rs. 800 crores. As it became too toxic, he wanted to stay away from the industry and the people over there.

Anurag Kashyap went on to say that he envies South Indian makers for the creative freedom they get. He said that the producers in Bollywood question him about the business and box-office numbers before the shoot begins, which he feels will destroy the joy of filmmaking.

Last year, Kashyap delivered acclaimed performances in films like Maharaja (Tamil) and Rifle Club (Malayalam). He will be next seen in Adivi Sesh’s Telugu film Dacoit, directed by Shaniel Deo.
