Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit is one of the most anticipated upcoming films in Indian cinema. However, this isn’t a project that was announced recently. Spirit was announced exactly four years ago, yet the shoot hasn’t even started and the film still remains in the pre-production stage. It was earlier reported that filming would begin in September this year, but that didn’t happen.
On October 8, 2021, Sandeep Reddy Vanga announced Spirit on social media, raising high expectations among fans. His last film, Animal, was released in December 2023. It’s been almost two years since Animal hit the screens, and the shooting of Spirit still hasn’t begun. The shoot is expected to commence once Prabhas completes his ongoing commitments. Once it begins, it may take around a year or a year and a half to complete. So, audiences might have to wait at least two more years to witness its release.
Interestingly, even without going on floors, Spirit often manages to make headlines. Initially, it trended on social media when rumours surfaced that Korean actor Dong Lee would play the antagonist. Later, Deepika Padukone was roped in as the female lead, but she eventually opted out due to undisclosed reasons. Following that, Sandeep Reddy Vanga took to social media, accusing Deepika of spreading negative PR about the film. Eventually, Tripti Dimri was finalized as the female lead.
Prabhas will be seen playing the role of a cop in this film. He is reportedly on a mission to lose weight to sport a leaner look for the role. Meanwhile, new rumours suggest that Chiranjeevi might play Prabhas’s father and Sanjay Dutt his elder brother in the movie. It is also being speculated that actor Tarun will make his comeback with this project. For now, all these remain as rumours with no official confirmation yet.
Spirit is being produced by T-Series in association with Bhadrakali Pictures. Harshavardhan Rameshwar is composing the music for the film.
